The
Facilities Maintenance department repairs existing mechanical
systems, physical structures and equipment needed on
a daily basis. This department also provides general
services such as a technical assistance cadre for special
events, janitorial and general labor task force. Our
department monitors mechanical systems, a recycling
program, and solutions to maintenance problems that
are lasting solutions reducing maintenance expenses
and enhance life quality without adversely impacting
life quality, (environmental constraints). This department
concedes to impart a codependent status to the Foundation’s
continued progression towards a functional Arcology.
Reuse, recognizing value, evaluating circumstances,
circumspection, and application through conditional
results encapsulates our departmental reflection of
Solerian Theory of Architecture. Architecture that imparts
a societal imperative that results in a mechanism that
enhances the human experience as a group hence called
Arcology.
A student can expect a learning experience with electric,
plumbing, gas, carpentry, tile, masonry, metallurgy
and or environmental manipulation. We are looking for
individuals capable and interested in a variety of activities
and disciplines.
Most of our activities center from the Lab Building
referred to as the Wood Shop. Our department also accesses
the mechanic shed and metal shop. There can also be
outdoor work.
Developing
a vow of poverty, realizing duty, centering in Zen ideology.
This notion I believe can transcend social stratification
where there is a responsibility to the incapable. Individuals
should do for themselves and when they cannot call on
the Arcosanti Rangers, maintenance monks.
