| internship - planning / drafting |
The
program offers opportunities to study in the unique environment
of the prototype Arcology under construction in the Arizona high
desert. In addition to the 5-week Arcosanti workshop program which
is required for internship candidacy, the program offers hands-on
participation in the construction and other activities, opportunities
to work with Paolo Soleri in design development and execution of
Arcosanti as well as current theoretical projects. The Planning
Department's primary focus is the design and execution of drawings
of the East Crescent Complex. Through the design process, we seek
to reflect Arcology concepts such as mixed use space allocation,
households with shared facilities, frugality of space, passive solar
designs, etc. The Planning Department is also responsible for planning
and designing restoration projects on site, as well as doing some
research on alternative materials and construction systems. Aside
from taking part in construction, we also get out of the office
to participate in group work, site chores and our recycle program.
The activities of the Planning Department include:
- Preparation of construction documents
- Field inspection and Survey
- Design development with supervisor and Paolo Soleri of
future Arcosanti building and theoretical urban complexes
- Design and Provide drawings for finishing projects on
site

The Internship opportunities include:

- Working with Paolo Soleri in design development
- Hands-on construction experience
|
The candidate qualifications and requirements include:
- Architectural drafting and design experience
- AutoCAD proficiency
- Model-making skills
- Completion of the Arcosanti workshop program
- 3 months minimum commitment (volunteering)

The Planning department is located in the
Office Level of the Soleri Office Drafting (S.O.D.) Building. The
main advantage of this location is its proximity to the construction
site! It is a very pleasant building with beautiful views of the
mesa. A swamp cooler on the roof makes it one of the "coolest"
work places on site!
